FNO 2012: The Sights & Sounds
Friday, September 14, 2012 —FNO was hit and miss, but mostly hit nearing the end of the night! This was my 2nd year taking part in FNO and I must say that if you don’t plan your route meticulously, you will found yourself disappointed while standing in a sea of people wondering what you did wrong!
I started off in Meatpacking around 7 p.m. Little did I know that it was much too late to entertain the Diane Von Furstenburg and Alexander McQueen stores! Lines were down the block and around the corner. After mulling around, disappointment sprawled across my face, I made the executive decision at 7:30 to head uptown to the shops on 5th Ave. I would find marginal success at Bergdorf Goodman and Saks.
Bergdorfs definitely had my kind of scene! I walked into the 5th avenue entrance to find a FIERCE drag queen named Lady Bunny dj’ing his life away in a hot pink wig! I made my way upstairs and came across Sara James Mnookin’s book signing for Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf Goodman, the companion illustration book to the fashion documentary of the same name (celebrating the 111th anniversary of the iconic luxury store). Apparently, I missed the celebs who were on hand at the signing including my girl Rachel Zoe and Naeem Khan. Vogue editor Anna Wintour also made an appearance at Bergdorf. Note to self for next year: arrive at 5 lol.
Next, I met up with my friend Sureme at Saks where 101 events were happening simultaneously. In the 20 minutes that I was there, we caught a question/answer discussion with Fern Mallis, founder of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, saw some beautiful visual displays, and moved on.
By far, the highlight of the night was the Swarovski on 5th Ave.! Champagne was flowing, the dj had me moving, and who can’t resist trying on beautiful crystal watches, necklaces, and other baubles. Until next year!
