Currently one of my favorite spring ad campaigns. So ladylike, demure, and playful.

Couture Reads: Dior Couture by Patrick Demarchelier
Famed French fashion photographer, Patrick Demarchelier, has recently published a book showcasing over 100 of the most exquisite gowns spanning the life of the Christian Dior haute couture house. From vintage to contemporary looks designed by Christian Dior and his successors (Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, and John Galliano), Demarchelier picked the hottest models to shoot in some of the world’s most distinctive locales. The shoots were staged in New York’s Times Square, “a movie studio in Beijing…in Paris, in settings including a private chateau, the Opera Garnier, avenue Montaigne, and at the Hotel Plaza Athenee.” Karlie Kloss, Gisele, actress Charlize Theron, and many more were featured.

Yves Saint Laurent Men’s Fall/Winter 2012-2013
Now THIS is what I call a presentation! Dare I venture to say, art?!
This show is best enjoyed via show footage from last week’s Paris Menswear Fashion Week. EN-joy!
Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week: Alexis Mabille Spring 2012 is Wearable Couture
“It is only women who do not know how to dress that are afraid of colors.” – Marcel Proust (French novelist and critic) To some, those might be considered fighting words! However, if you’re a fan of Alexis Mabille’s latest collection, then that also means you’re not averse to wearing shades of bubblegum/Barbie pink, fire truck red, lime green, and orange. All 21 looks, which debuted in Paris this week, are statement pieces in and of themselves, without even addressing the tissue flowers mounted on top of model’s heads (o, and there’s face paint involved)! For a couture collection, I found the dresses and fascinators (depending on the occasion) to be quite accessible. In a sense, Mabille’s striking looks can be everything to everyone. From a short, yet chic embroidered mini-dress with fringe at the hem to a hip hugging, knee-length shift dress, from dramatic ball gowns (think Alexander McQueen) to Giorgio Armani-esque tuxedo suits in lime green satin (finished with a coordinated bow tie), Mabille managed to express strength, playfulness, and even romance.
His inspirations include Lisa Fonssagrives, considered to be the first supermodel, and famed Calvin Klein model Christy Turlington. “This is couture you can really wear,” Mabille enthused post-runway show.

Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2012 Couture: A Tribute to Amy Winehouse
It was not by fault that the models strutting down the runway at yesterday’s Jean Paul Gaultier show were akin to a fallen R&B/soul singer. That’s because Jean Paul Gaultier, the famed French haute couture fashion designer, paid tribute to the late Amy Winehouse. “I think Amy Winehouse was truly a fashion icon,” Gaultier states while describing his inspiration for the show. Her presence was felt throughout as the models were heaped in heavy cat eye makeup, rocked Winehouse’s signature beehive updo, and even the looks were named after the songbird’s lyrics.
The spring 2012 couture collection oozed of the za za zoo! It was neo-rocker chic (think Taylor Momsen and Rihanna) meets a 90’s affinity for neon color, curve hugging 50’s flair, with corsets, leather elements (bomber jackets and pencil skirts), quite a few sheer lace skirt suits, and pairing contrasting textures and patterns.
My favorite look was the fuschia pink sheer silk chiffon maxi dress layered over a white swimsuit decorated with the most gorgeous collar embroidery and statement earrings I’ve ever seen! Suprisingly, it all worked together to create a unique take on couture.

How Can You Not Love That Face?!: Alber Elbaz to Write a Book
It’s all about expanding your brand and Alber Elbaz, chief designer at French maison Lanvin, is doing just that. Fresh off the heels of his announcement over the weekend, Elbaz is already writing the book which is slated to be published in early 2012. Hardly what one would consider light reading at 700 pages (unless you’re into Harry Potter and the likes…in which case I’m not lol), it will document the design and production process involved in churning out a Lanvin collection. According to Elbaz, some of the pages will be void of pictures because “that is how I start every day.” Bless his heart.
I love the Lanvin aesthetic so I’m definitely looking forward to adding this to my coffee collection.

The Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris Announces Exhibition on Marc Jacobs for 2012
The Musée des Art Décoratifs, the museum of the decorative arts and design, will host an exhibition in honor of the American fashion designer Marc Jacobs and his impact on the Louis Vuitton brand. Jacobs is the head designer for Marc Jacobs and the creative director at Louis Vuitton.
The exhibit will be curated by Pamela Golbin, head curator at Musée des Art Décoratifs, and is slated to open sometime in 2012. According to Art Media Agency, “Pamela Golbin decided to divide the exhibition in two parts with the first part focusing on Louis Vuitton in the nineteenth century and the industrial revolution. The second part will focus on globalization and Marc Jacobs’s contribution to the world of fashion.” We look forward to hearing more about this exciting project!
